Here's what you should do:

• In an emergency phone the 24 hour emergency homeless service at your local council. The number should be in the Phone Book or phone the Council switchboard number.
• If you have a little more time phone or call in to make an appointment with the council homelessness or housing advice department.
• The Shelter Scotland website contains more detailed local contacts for housing support and homelessness advice. You can also check the location of your nearest Housing Advice Centre. They can offer free, impartial advice. Visit their website here.
• You can also contact the Shelter's free housing advice helpline on 0808 800 4444.
• Your local Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB) can also help. Check the phone book or check this site for your nearest CAB.
• If you are a woman escaping violence, phone Women's Aid who can give advice and refuge. Check the telephone directory for a local number or visit this site.
