My Space My Place Glasgow,Glasgow Youth Housing Advice and Information Strategy (2006)

The youth unit worked closely with Glasgow Homelessness Partnership (GHP) to develop a Youth Housing Advice and Information Strategy (link to follow). As part of this work, GHP commissioned SCSH to produce a short booklet on leaving home and housing. SCSH consulted with young people in Glasgow to produce a booklet that would be useful and accessible. The leaflet was launched in August 2006.The leaflet sets out some of the pros and cons of leaving home, different accommodation options, what to do in a crisis, and how to make a success of a tenancy. The idea is to give people an insight into the various stages of leaving home and the sorts of difficulties that can arise.Across Scotland the young people we talk to who have left home at an early age consistently say, if it's safe to stay, stay at home as long as you can. In a focus group to develop ideas for this leaflet, young people in Glasgow said the same. They also came up with lots of improvements on our first draft - so very many thanks. The cover and one sample page are shown on this website. For more information about the booklet or to commission advice and information material for young people.
